I have completely removed the need for discipline from my life.
I have completely removed the need for discipline from my life.
Six years ago, I was very productive on social media.
But there was a downside. It took up far too much of my time and energy!
It was impossible for me to be on social media for only short periods of time. Every time I opened the internet, I immediately went to Facebook or Instagram and was lost for the next few hours.
I didn't even enjoy doing it, but I just couldn't change it.
-
Try 1: a password.
I changed my Facebook password.
Result: After a few months, I was no longer even aware of what I was typing and was back on social media full-time. I was extremely disappointed with myself.
-
Try 2: someone else holds the password.
I asked two of my team members to change the passwords for my social media accounts. If I wanted to go on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram, I had to ask one of them to type my password into my computer.
Result: At first, I was only on social media once a week. Then twice a month. And finally, only a few times a year.
-
Try 3: a new phone number.
I requested a new phone number a year and a half ago. I had had my old number for fifteen years.
Result: My phone was no longer a nuisance but a pleasure.
-
Internet Fasting.
The great thing is that I don't need any discipline to do this: I simply don't have access to social media.
When I was eating unhealthily, I used all my willpower to try to eat healthily, but I couldn't do it.
Internet Fasting is basically the same: you no longer need discipline. You have a fixed period during which you go online, and the rest of the time you don't even have to think about it.

The relevance of incoming traffic was maximized and the amount was kept to a minimum.
-
I simply don't have access to social media. And I'm very happy about that.
But beware: this book is not for everyone.
Internet Fasting is intended for the top one percent who are looking for extreme productivity.
I have completely removed the need for discipline from my life. But it took some work to get there. It's not a decision you make lightly.
